The work.

Beyond the Lens is the fine art photography of Duarte Cruz, based in Sintra, Portugal. It is built around one idea: a photograph should make you feel you were there.

Every image in this collection was made on location. Iceland's black sand coasts, Portugal's Atlantic cliffs, Canada's frozen wilderness, Norway above the Arctic Circle. Shot at the edges of light: before sunrise, after sunset, in weather most photographers wait out.

The approach

Atmosphere. The goal is never the landmark. It is the light, the weather, the moment. Places are chosen for what they feel like, not for where they sit on a map.

Quality. Shot on full-frame Sony and DJI aerial systems. Printed on Hahnemühle archival paper with pigment inks rated to last over a hundred years.

Restraint. A small collection of images that each earn their place.

Made to order

There is no warehouse and no checkout. You choose a print and send a request; I confirm the details with you and have it produced to order. It is slower than a shop, and that is the point.
